We woke up to light rain and what a difference it made. It was so refreshing and cool.
We left our lovely, old hotel wearing our wet gear but after an hour the sun was out and we changed back into our regular walking clothes. We did this in an open garage behind hay bales.
The walk was an easy one again along a clear wide path. We passed through three very small villages. From the first village we could see in the distance a church cut into the hillside.
The middle village looked almost deserted but we found a park bench at a playground and had a small break. The third village had a cafe and as it was a short walk today we stopped for morning tea for about half an hour and joined a number of other walkers. At this stage we only had five kilometres to our accommodation.
Close to our destination of Villafranca de Montes de Oca we passed the remains of an old monastery, St Felix with a decorated way mark nearby. Apparently, the remains of the monastery are of the main altar and apse. It would be a perfect spot for "Time Team".
Our accommodation is a very grand three star hotel which sits above and alongside the village church dedicated to St James. It is closed and looks like it is undergoing massive restoration.
Our hotel is a very up-market one and has a high standard of dress. We noted very carefully the sign at the reception desk.
We met for a pre-dinner drink at the hotel's cafe. It is now cool enough to sit in the sun at six o'clock and not feel roasted! There were many walkers at the hotel dining room for the Menu de Peregrino. (They all had clothes and shoes on!) They came from those staying at the hotel and the hotel's alburgue. We were hungry and once again had three courses plus wine and water included. It was a good day.
